Nature Playce gets 33 helping hands! -  6/19/2010

What can 33 people and a tractor do in 4 hours? Well, if they’re Kiwanians, they can transform a small corner of the world!

That’s just what the Kiwanis Club of Annandale, joined by folks from Tysons/Mclean and Fairfax Clubs and youth volunteers, did on Saturday, June 19th when the Annandale Club organized a volunteer work day at the Nature Playce in Hidden Oaks Nature Center in Annandale. See photos

The goal was to rejuvenate the Nature Playce, an outdoor experience area built to

Bailey's Fiesta del Sol -  6/11/2010
Monica and Gavin helped out at Bailey's Elementary School's annual Festival del Sol, providing much needed assistance at the food sales table and as entertainment (Gavin loves telling tall stories...). Our assistance freed up parents to join their kids playing games, making crafts, learning about sun safety, and watching local dance groups. More than 200 kids served!

Lending Clemyjontri Park a hand -  4/10/2010
To celebrate Kiwanis One Day, volunteers from Annandale Kiwanis Club joined forces on Saturday with members from Tysons and Fairfax clubs to carry out much needed maintenance at Clemyjontri Park, “where children of all abilities can play side-by-side,” because it’s also handicapped accessible. We spread mulch, laid soil and placed sod around the park to celebrate spring.

St. Patrick's Day Fun -  3/22/2010
The Kiwanis Club of Annandale Chorister's paid a joyful visit to the folks at Arden Courts last night. We brought our special flavor of enthusiastic but not-necessarily-tuneful singing to a delightful and appreciative crowd of residents.

Fortunately for us, the audience knew the songs better than we did and were happy to fill in the bits we weren't so sure about. Lots of smiles , laughter and good natured ribbing made for a truly lovely visit.

Special thanks to Carolyn from Fairfax Club who

AKC hosts Bethany House -  12/7/2009
Our club was delighted to host a gathering of women and children from Bethany House for an evening of abundant food (some of those ice-cream cones were world-record sizes!), laughter, gifts and fellowship. We wish them all a very merry Christmas and a successful new year.

Member of the Month - November -  12/7/2009
Shirley R. is the President's Member of the Month for November (and OK, into December!). Without her stalwart efforts, our Arden Courts Sing-along and Bethany House Night Out would not have been such successes.

Thank you Shirley!

AKC Sings Holiday Cheer -  11/30/2009
Our club sang Christmas songs to residents of Arden Courts in Annandale. This year we had piano accompaniment provided by a guest star, Carolyn Richar (President of Fairfax Kiwanis - thanks Carolyn!). Once again, focus was on volume rather than talent but we succeeded in bringing a smile to some folks who don't always have much to smile about. Service with a smile - isn't that what it's all about?

Samaritan's Feet Project Kick-Off -  11/12/2009
Our club kicked-off its campaign to collect shoes for Samaritan's Feet at the Dale Larson Service Leadership Program Dinner, hosted by Tyson's Club. Thanks to the generosity of attendees, there are 25 young kids who will have shoes for possibly the first time in their lives. Our goal is 250 pairs - our main drop off location is Bailey's Crossroads Autobody Shop (5710 Center Lane in Falls Church) or bring them to a meeting!

Memorial Service for Aubrey Chason -  11/10/2009
The Memorial Service for Aubrey will be 2pm on Saturday @ Lincolnia Methodist Church, 6335 Little River Turnpike in Alexandria.

Anne and Aubrey's family have requested donations in lieu of flowers be sent to the Annandale Kiwanis Club at PO box 962, Annandale VA 22003.

Brittany is our October Volunteer of the Month for her club promotion efforts at the Annandale Festival and for her continuous searching out of new volunteer opportunities. Thanks, and keep it up!

2009 Annandale Parade and Festival -  10/24/2009
Thanks to the Key Clubbers from Annandale High School who braved the damp conditions to join us at the annual Annandale Fall Parade sponsored by the Annandale Chamber of Commerce.

Led by the "Pirate Ostrich Man", we helped bring smiles to hundreds of kids' faces by handing out candy and celebrating our our wonderful community. The Key Clubbers helped staff our very popular pumpkin ring toss at the festival, and we had more than 300 kids participate in the Pumpkin Treasure Hunt. Check
